The
Norway pout's habitats are in the Northeast Atlantic, from the Barent
Sea to the North Sea, around the Faroe Islands and Iceland from where
it wanders to the East Greenland coast. It is found at depths of
40-400 metres. Its average length is 27 cm. The Danes and
the Norwegians started fishing it for their fish meal factories from
the North Sea in 1961. The Icelanders started in 1969. The
catch has been about 14 thousand tonnes annually and it is believed,
that the stock is large enough for much more exploitation. |
